Color Your Closet: Our Favorite Color Combinations

Bold splashes of color can provide an instant upgrade to any wardrobe. While timeless classics and simple styles are cornerstones of any gentleman’s closet, key colors can amp up your style game and help you stand out amongst a crowd. Neutral staples in black, white, and gray are fail-safe pieces that will always have you looking sharp, but colored accents can take any outfit to the next level. However, knowing how to wear colors without feeling too flashy or over the top can be intimidating, causing many to skip the colors altogether. To bring a little color into your closet, simply remember the cardinal rule: it’s all about balance. We’ve highlighted some of our favorite color combinations that balance beautifully to help you wear colors with confidence and ease:

Red

To best rock a bright, bold red, balance it with neutral hues or clean white pieces. This will help counteract the tone so it’s more of a pop of color rather than an overwhelming assault on the eyes. Additionally, a red accessory or layering piece, such as our Baron Red scarf or Cardinal v-neck sweater also pairs beautifully with cool navy shades for a flattering and classic look.

Burgundy

If classic red is too much for your taste, opt for a deeper, softer shade, such as our classic crew neck in Sangria. This burgundy-esque shade goes well with navy and also is complimented by neutrals such as black, white, gray, and brown.

Green

Green is one of our favorite color staples, as it is one of the most versatile color choices for any closet. Dark green hues provide color while always looking masculine, and they’re flattering on almost any skin tone. Deep hues, like our Hunter Green v-neck sweater look great with everything, but we love the pairing particularly with brown leather accents and khaki pants.

Blue

Blue and brown are naturally complimentary contrasting colors. No matter what shade of brown already is in your closet, or what hue of blue you prefer, the colors will almost always compliment each other. It’s an understated look that always gives an instantly polished aesthetic, and it’s a combination that is flattering for any complexion. For a more formal look, pair a rich chocolate hue with a deep navy accent, such as our Blue Peacot cardigan vest. If you want a more casual style, a pale blue, like our v-neck sweater in Sky Blue, looks casual chic with a pair of khaki chinos.
